Roy Pulvino Sr.

Roy Pulvino Sr., 89, of Dunkirk died Tuesday morning, Sept. 26, 2023, at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 8, 1934 in Fredonia, the son of Roy and Jennie (Parlato) Pulvino.

A lifelong area resident, Roy attended Fredonia High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served on the USS Missouri and the Albany.

Roy had been employed as a steel worker at Al Tech Specialty Steel Corp. and was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and First Ward Falcon Club.

An avid golfer, bowler, and sports fan, Roy won the Hillview golf championship several times. He loved to watch the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills. In high school, he lettered in three sports: baseball, football, and basketball.

To know Roy Pulvino was to know his ready smile and easy laugh. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jean, (loved her cooking) and loving father to his four children. He was trustworthy, loyal, punctual, and kind. He enjoyed listening to his favorite big band music featuring Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things golf and custom built his own clubs.

Survivors include two sons, Roy D. Jr. (Diloylo) Pulvino of Mesa, AZ , and David M. Pulvino of Dunkirk; his daughter, Stephanie Pulvino (deceased as of Oct. 5, 2023); and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean M. (DePasquale) Pulvino who died Jan. 1, 2023; son, Jeffrey M. Pulvino; and two sisters, Annette Piede and Frances Kubera.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
