John Oliver Metzger

John Oliver Metzger was born October 15, 1929, in Dunkirk, New York. He worked several years throughout the mid-west as a Radio Service Technician. During his travels, he met and married Geneva Pearl Sexton – his wife and companion for over 66 years. Eventually, John returned to the Dunkirk area to raise his family and tend to his aging parents. He worked for Forbes & Wagner Electronics as a Filter Design Engineer. He started and ran a radio sales and service business – Southern Tier Communications. He also worked as an engineer for several local radio stations. He finished his work career at SUNY Syracuse and Fredonia in electronic tech support.

He greatly enjoyed working on his family farm, playing country and blue grass music on his guitar and square dancing with his wife and friends.

John Oliver Metzger is survived by his four children, John D. Metzger (Dolores), James B. Metzger (Bertha), Jeffery A. Metzger (Dana) and Mary A. Strawser (Roger), 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home on Saturday, November 25. Calling hours for family and friends will be between 10am -11;30am. The family Funeral Service will be held immediately after calling hours at the McGraw Kowal Funeral Home with the Pastor Scott Wise Officiating

John will be laid to rest at Cowdens Corners Cemetery in Arkwright, New York in the Metzger family plot.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in John’s memory to Sheridan Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
