Cheryl “Cheri” Ann Burgstrom Skurzewski

Cheryl “Cheri” Ann (Burgstrom) Skurzewski, 66, of Fredonia passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at home. Wife of Peter; mother to Paul (Lindsay Farmer) Skurzewski and Mark (Jennifer) Skurzewski, and “Gigi” of Patrick Skurzewski; Sister of: Susan (Allan) Zurawski, Richard (Brenda) Burgstrom, Jr., Roberta (Stephen) Maxwell, Karen (John) Boner and John (Sheri) Burgstrom; daughter-in-law of Inge (Thomas) Gooch; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Cheryl was predeceased by her mother, Ann Burgstrom. Cheri was a proud graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School, often regaling friends and family members at social gatherings with the hijinks that she experienced in her time there. Following graduation, Cheri attended Jamestown Community College and Trocaire College, earning her degrees in nursing. Cheri dedicated her life to her work as a nurse, serving patients at Brooks Hospital for 44 years. Cheri began her journey at Brooks Memorial Hospital as an aide, and advanced her licensure, first as an LPN, then as an RN. She was head nurse in the ICU for over 20 years and charge nurse in the ER for over 20 years. In 2021 Cheri was the recipient of the Carol Kozlowski Award for Nursing Excellence from Brooks Memorial Hospital. She later gained certification as an advanced life support trainer. As a trainer, Cheri educated countless healthcare professionals with the advanced life support skills to save the lives of innumerable adult, pediatric, and cardiac patients. She was known by her work family as a dedicated nurse, who always went the extra mile to comfort and support her patients and coworkers alike. Cheri attended St. Joseph Parish of Fredonia. A life-long Buffalo Bills fan, Cheri purchased season tickets starting in 1978, and was a proud Bills season ticket holder for the past 45 years. In her free time, Cheri enjoyed traveling, including a yearly trip to Lake Norman each fall. This past summer, Cheri completed a cross-country trip with her husband of 40 years, Pete. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue in Fredonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at St. Joseph Church, 145 East Main Street in Fredonia at 10:00 AM. (Please assemble at Church.) Arrangements by David J.
