Richard L. “Dick” Golden

Richard L. “Dick” Golden, 91, of Fredonia, NY, passed away Sunday December 31, 2023 at home with his loving family at his side. Richard was born May 2, 1932 in Jamestown, son of the late Walter A. and Elsie (Nelson) Golden. As a teenager, Dick had great interest in radio and TV as a hobby. While serving in the US Army during the Korean War, Dick had training as a radar and guided missile technician maintaining radar sites along the United States eastern coast. He continued repairing TV’s in a small shop in Philadelphia while serving. Upon returning home he worked as a bread truck delivery man while starting his family and continued part- time TV repair. Dick began a full-time business starting Dick Golden Radio & TV in 1964 and for 53 years enjoyed his hobby never feeling as if he were going to work. Dick enjoyed greatly the many cherished friendships he made and the valued customers he served. Those coming into his store always received a welcome face and the personal goal of Dick’s to treat them as family. He provided honest and fair service and had a personality and enjoyable manner with humor which lead people to return repeatedly for years as customers and friends to see him. He greatly appreciated each one. Dick also offered family members and employees lasting values, lessons and experiences rewarding them in having worked with him in his store. The family offers special recognition and thanks to Dick’s longtime friend Eliot Rose for his support and dedication. Upon his retirement in 2017 at age 85, Dick was proudly honored to receive recognition for service to the community by the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dick’s family maintains a lasting closeness and values taught by him and has experienced much happiness having had him as their dad and grandfather. He will be remembered especially for his humor and stories and will be very dearly missed.
