Kevin Michael Newell, Sr.
Kevin Michael Newell, Sr., 65, with family by his side, peacefully passed away on February 14, 2024, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Westfield, New York to Phyllis (Levandoski) Newell, and David W. Newell, on April 4, 1958. He attended Westfield Academy and Central School, graduating in 1976.
A car enthusiast, Kevin worked several years in the car parts business for CMK Auto Parts, and Raynor Chrysler-Plymouth, both located in Westfield.
Over the past 17 years, Kevin worked as a bartender at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 118 in Westfield. As a lifetime member of the lodge, he was highly active holding many offices, most notably a two-time Governor, which his father and grandfather, James Newell, held during their tenure as members of the lodge. In addition to his governorship,
Kevin was President of Moose Legion, and Past President of District 2. On June 5, 2021, he earned the highest honor of the Moose, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, at Mooseheart, Illinois. Kevin was a good, loyal friend and member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
In addition to his numerous activities at the Moose club, Kevin was a lifetime member of the Westfield Fish and Game Club; he held the office of secretary.
A prolific hobbyist, Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, woodworking, model railroading, playing his guitars; and photography, especially black and white.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Phyllis Newell, sister Kathryn Newell Hoyt, and brother Timothy J. (Tim) Newell; his daughter, Lyn (Richard) Mazzarella, of Arizona, his son,] Kevin M. Newell, Jr. of Erie, PA, his nephew, Phillip (Lindsay) Hoyt, of Rochester, NY, and his aunt and uncle, Nancy and Steve Nichols, of Westfield. He has two granddaughters, Sofia and Olivia Mazarella, a great nice, Aila Mae Hoyt, and great nephew, Keegan Hoyt..
Kevin was predeceased by his father, David W. Newell.
Friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield, NY on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 4-7 PM, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11 AM. Interment will be private in the Westfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mooseheart in Mooseheart, Illinois, or the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department.
