Mary Ann Corsoro (Catalano)

Mary Ann Corsoro (Catalano), born on June 20, 1936, gracefully departed this world on February 17, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Sam “Bim” Corsoro, who passed away on May 8, 2010.

Mary Ann led a life filled with joy and shared countless precious moments with those she held dear. Known for her vibrant spirit, she found joy in simple pleasures such as Boscov store shopping, Casino bus trips, and annual visits to Florida. A dedicated educator, Mary Ann devoted an impressive 41 years to teaching in the Dunkirk school system, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students while also winning the coveted Coleman Award for Excellence in teaching.

Even after her retirement, Mary Ann continued to contribute to the world of education by volunteering in her colleague and friend Carolyn Greenough’s classroom for 3 or 4 years. She found solace and camaraderie in her weekly rosary group and cherished the tradition of Friday dinners with her gang and friends. An active participant in the Senior Center, Mary Ann generously donated her time and resources to various causes, earning her the reputation of being a friend to all.

Before the passing of her husband Sam, Mary Ann and he were frequent patrons of the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. Their shared love for the event resulted in the purchase of countless sweatshirts that became cherished tokens for family, friends, and coworkers.

Proud sponsor of Kirk’s Jewelers and the fond roommate of “Pajama Paul,” Mary Ann cultivated lasting friendships and left an indelible impact on those fortunate enough to know her.

Mary Ann is survived by her devoted brother, Louie, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Catalano. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom she treated and spoiled as her own, as well as close friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

In addition to her parents, Carmela and Joseph Catalano, and her beloved husband, Samuel Corsoro, Mary Ann was predeceased by her brother, George Catalano, sister-in-law, Maureen Karin Catalano, and niece, Karin Bardo.

A celebration of Mary Ann Corsoro’s life will take place on Thurs., Feb. 22, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Fri., Feb. 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
