Gowanda – Theodore M. Trewer, 71, of Gowanda, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. He was born September 12, 1952 in Warsaw, NY, the son of Wilfred and Chlorena (Shaver) Trewer.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Ted chose a career as a railroad conductor, hiring out with Erie Lackawanna then Conrail and retiring with CSX with 42 years of service. Ted was also a train enthusiast and spent many hours of enjoyment on his HO Scale Layout. He loved to play with trains.
Ted proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with over 50 years of service with the East Avon and Collins Fire Departments. After his retirement, Ted spent many volunteer hours mowing and helping to maintain the beauty of the Pine Hill Cemetery.
Ted was an avid Yankee and Pittsburgh Steelers fan but in the end, the Buffalo Bills managed to also win his heart.
Ted was a member of the Collins Center Seniors, the Sons of the American Legion, the Gowanda Moose, the Slovenien Club and the Gowanda United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer.
Ted is survived by his wife, Susan (Farley) Trewer, two sisters, Pam (Tom) Henie, and MaryAnn (Bob) Exler, his children; Christopher Trewer, Cory (Christina) Trewer and Kelly (Mike) Poquette, as well as grandchildren; Haley, Joseph, Jacob, Emma, Sophie, and Nate. Ted was the bonus dad to two daughters, JoAnn (Bryan) Mentley and Rachael (Dave Myers) Nixon, and bonus grandpa to Zachary, Makenzie, Isaiah, Hayden, and Elizabeth. He is also survived by sisters-in-law LuAnn (David) Billings, Vickie (Randy) Shields, and Judy Payne and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ted was predeceased by a brother-in-law, David Farley (Sue Prince surviving).
Friends may call on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 3-6 pm and Friday, February 23, 2024 from 11 am to 12 pm Noon from Mentley Funeral Home Inc.,105 East Main St. in Gowanda.
Funeral services will immediately follow on Friday at 12 pm Noon from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
