Angela Lamattina

Angela Lamattina

Angela Lamattina, beloved wife and mother, died suddenly on Sunday, March 17, 2024, six days after celebrating her 78th birthday. She was born in Caggiano, Italy on March 11, 1946.

After an early life of hard work on the farms of Caggiano, Angela married Domenic in December of 1962 and started a family the next year. Within a few years they were determined to build a better life for their young family and moved to America, settling in Dunkirk in 1969. Angela immediately got started, working many jobs, sometimes two at a time, to build a solid foundation with Domenic for her family.

Her legendary work ethic, starting when she was 9 years old in Italy, lasted until her passing on Sunday, and allowed her to touch many lives along the way. She spent most of her early career at the former Dunkirk Ice Cream putting in many 12-hour days during the busy summer months. She also spent many years behind the counter at Lucky Lanes cooking up burgers and fries for all her lucky diners. Finally, the job she liked most was what she did right up to the end, working at Mary’s Deli, helping to make some of the best pizza pies in the area. With all that, she will be most remembered for her enormous loyalty, heart and generosity giving her time and energy to anyone who needed a hand.

Angela, a devout Catholic, was the loving wife of Domenic for 56 years before his passing in 2019; and the mother of Maria Lamattina (who predeceased her in 1994), Michael Lamattina and Frank (Stephanie) Lamattina. Most importantly, her love for Domenic and her children was only surpassed by her love for her grandchildren, Nicholas, Francesca and Delphine Lamattina, often just calling to “hear their voices.” Angela is also survived by her sister Grace Altilio and brother-in-law, Joseph Lamattina, both living in Italy; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Giacomo Altilio, and her parents Michele and Laurita Altilio.

Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours, today from 4-6 p.m. at McGraw Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 21 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Angela’s memory to Holy Trinity Church or Northern Chautauqua Catholic School would be appreciated by the family.
