John J. Sullivan

John J. Sullivan, 85, died Monday March 25, 2024 at Absolute Care of Westfield, NY. He was born January 18, 1937 in Dunkirk, N.Y. to Thomas C. and Esther (Nash) Sullivan. John graduated from Mindszenty High School in 1957. On August 25, 1962 John married Frances A. Domst at St. Hyacinth Church, in Dunkirk. John was a member of the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department and M.M. Fenner Hose Company 2 for over 55 years. He served as Secretary and Treasurer for over 30 years for the Fredonia Exempt Firemen’s Association. He was also a bugler in Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. Working for the United States Postal Service, John work in Fredonia Post Office as clerk and then supervisor. He retired from Silver Creek Post Office as Postmaster in October 1992. He belonged to NARFE (National Active Retired Federal Employees Association), UPMA (United Postmasters and Managers of America, Retired) and St. Joseph Church in Fredonia, N.Y.

John is survived by: his wife Frances; children: Alexandria Sullivan of Fredericksburg VA, Robert (Candace) Sullivan, of Easton, PA and Karen (Richard) DeSantis, of East Aurora, NY; grandchildren: Megan Sullivan, of Poughkeepsie, NY, Brian Sullivan (Bethany Powhida), of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael DeSantis, of Hamburg, NY, and Grace (Zach) Wilcox, of Buffalo, NY; nephews: Michael (Valerie Kneitinger) Sullivan, Timothy (Brenda) Sullivan, Thomas (Cheryl) Sullivan, Lori (Phil) Pajak and Daniel (Deborah) Sullivan.

Besides his parents, John is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Sullivan, (late Claudia Sell Sullivan.) and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Domst, of Depew, NY.

Calling hours will be Monday April 1, 2024 from 6-8 pm at the LARSON-TIMKO, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia. A Firemen’s Service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 145 E. Main St., Fredonia, Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 10 am. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
