Johnny “Mack” F. Shaw Jr.

Johnny “Mack” F. Shaw Jr., age 80, of Springville, New York, died Monday, March 4, 2024. He was born in Gowanda, New York, a son of Johnny F. Shaw, Sr and Mary Jane (Farley) Shaw.

Johnny retired from National Fuel Gas Company in 2004 after 38 years of service as a Subforeman. He was a 50 year member of the Collins Vol. Fire Department, serving at times as Chief, President and finally as Chaplain. John was also a long time member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriner and Order of the Eastern Star.

He proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965.

He was known to his friends as “the gentle giant.” He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone who was in need. He coached Little Leage and Babe Ruth for several years.

He was an avid woodsman, and enjoyed being outdoors. He spent his time working in his garden, doing photography and woodworking.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers; George “Buddy” and Robert Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline L (Call) Shaw, his children: Johnny “Tim” (Karen) Shaw, Rebecca (Tom) Stancl, Jessica (Angelo Mercado) Shaw and Amanda Shaw, his grandchildren: Kaleb (Sara Smith) Mason, Nicholas Mason, Johnny (Natalie Lane) Shaw and Georgia (Michael Young) Shaw, Step grandchildren: Katherine (Jonathan Gordon) Macakanja, Daniel (Kaylee Hall) Macakania and Sarah (Victoria Schultz) Macakanja. Also survived by four great grandchildren, two sisters: Theresa Shaw, Peggy (Donald) Butcher and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00AM in the Free Methodist Church, 149 W. Main St. Gowanda, NY. Memorials may be made to the Collins Vol. Fire Department.
