SOUTH DAYTON –Patricia Z. Volk , age 80 of South Dayton passed away early Saturday morning March 16, 2024 unexpectedly at home.

Patricia was born in Arcade, NY March 24, 1943 the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Kozlowski) Zielenieski.

A 1961 graduate of Arcade Central School , she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Alfred State University in 1965, her Masters ; from The State University of NY in Fredonia in 1975. Mrs. Volk taught Jr. High Chemistry and Physics at the Gowanda Central School, she retired from the Pine Valley School District where she taught 8th grade Physical Science and Physics . She retired in 2005.

Patricia married Kenneth C. Volk April 15, 1968 at the St. Joseph’s RC Church in Gowanda. Kenneth passed away Tuesday October 3, 2017.

Pat and her husband ran the 4H Club in Beaver Valley for many years.

Memberships include; St. Joseph’s RC Church Gowanda, Pat was very involved with the Gowanda Ambulance Service and was instrumental in making the dream of a new facility for the Ambulance Service a reality. She served as President at the time of her death and also served on the Ambulance Board. Pat was also an active participant for the Food Pantry in South Dayton. She was a member of the NY State Teachers Association and the National Science Teachers Association.

Survivors include; 3 sons , Charles (Donna) Volk of Brant, Kenneth (Amy) Volk of Newton, Mass. , Kevin (Rehndell) Volk of Sunnyside, NY and a daughter Deborah (Donald) Gernatt of Springville. Grandchildren; Kathleen,Eric, Stephen, Travis, Kaitlyn, Derrick, Aidan and Graham. Great grandchildren; Colin,Ogden and Giovanni. Her siblings; Daniel (Vicki) Zielenieski of Arcade, NY , Dolores Alexander of Centerville, NY , and Christine (Victor) Perkins of Arcade, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive .

Besides her parents and husband Pat was preceded in death by a son Daniel Volk (his wife Christine survives) a brother Stanley Zielenieski, and a sister Maryann Almeter Friends may call 4:00-8:00pm at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St . Gowanda Friday March 22nd . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday March 23, 2024 at 10am from St. Joseph’s RC Church East Main St. Gowanda ( please assemble at church Saturday ) . Burial to follow in the Collins Center Cemetery .
