MAYVILLE- Selma Northrop Wood, 86, of Fredonia, NY and formerly of Mayville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY. She was born June 30, 1937, in Mayville, NY, the daughter of the late Clifford G. and Ethel Hall Northrop.
Selma was a 1955 graduate of Mayville Central School. She had worked as a typist for Chautauqua Abstract in Mayville and was an Auxiliary member of the Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647. She enjoyed reading romance and Amish novels, camping, snowmobiling, and quilting, especially baby quilts. Most of all she enjoyed time with her family.
She is survived by her three daughters; Joette (Randy) Henderson of Mayville, NY, Arlene Ann (Luis) Morales of Edgewater, FL, and Bonnie Webster of King, NC, five grandchildren; Kristin (Sam) Edla, Paul Floccari, Courtney Webster, Ashley (David) Rice, and Dylan Webster, and five great-grandchildren; Silas and Winston Edla, Sophia Grace Floccari, Alec Mitchell, and Andrew Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harland Wood, whom she married on July 2, 1955, and a son-in-law, Mark Webster.
The funeral will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). The Rev. Carmen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery. The family will receive friends for 2 hours before the service (10 AM – Noon), at the funeral home.
