David T. Lewandowski

David T. Lewandowski, 88, of Dunkirk, NY, founder of Fredonia Heating and Plumbing, Inc., passed away Saturday April 20, 2024 at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Dunkirk on July 8, 1935, the son of Frank and Hedwig (Lorence) Lewandowski;

Raised in Dunkirk, he attended Dunkirk City schools and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1953. In 1964 Dave established Fredonia Heating and Plumbing, Inc., now operated by his son, Daniel. Dave made many service calls at night, weekends and holidays in building his business. If a family did not have heat or hot water, Dave was there to make sure you got it no matter the day or time. Although busy with raising a family and running his business, he served the community as a volunteer with the Fredonia Fire Dept. Dave was a member of the Fredonia Beaver Club and Moose Club. He enjoyed golfing, wine making, hunting and ice fishing. He also enjoyed roller-skating, going to the casinos, Saturday morning coffee at the Upper Crust for many years and making sauerkraut with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He loved animals, particularly his cats Phoebe and Felix, along with the pheasants and quail that he raised on his Stone Road property.

David is survived by: his wife, Carolyn Lewandowski; 2 daughters: Cindy (Ray) Coniglio, ofFredonia and Linda (Bill) Dowdell, of Atlanta; a son, Daniel (Amy) Lewandowski, of Fredonia; 2brothers: Ray Lewandowski, of Fredonia and Jim Lewandowski, of Dunkirk; a stepson: Scott A. (Sabrina) Meyer, of Atlanta, GA; stepdaughter, Melissa (John) Robertson, of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Jessica Coniglio, Megan (Gene) Weldon, Jack Dowdell, Emily Dowdell, Lauren (Mike) Cole, Shawn, Nick, Kayla, Madison, Jake, Sarah Meyer and Paige Robertson; great-grandfather of: Evelyn, Bo and Lucy Weldon, Lilly Meyer, Benny Cole, Noah and Kaden Meyer; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Elsie Lewandowski; his son, David J. Lewandowski; a stepson Richard A. (Dawn) Meyer, of Atlanta, Ga. 2 brothers: Richard Lewandowski and Frank Lewandowski.

Memorial contributions in Dave’s memory can be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society in Dunkirk or Westfield Stray Cat Rescue. The family expresses their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Chautauqua Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and care extended to Dave and their family.

Visitation will be Friday from 4- 6 pm at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, where a prayer service by Father Dan Walsh will follow at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church at a later date.
