Claire McGarigle Bartkowiak, 83, formerly of Dunkirk, NY, died June 5, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida, where she had resided for the past three years.
She was born September 20, 1940, in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Inez (Murphy) McGarigle.
She graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from the State University College at Fredonia. She taught second grade for several years in Lancaster, NY; Red Bank, NJ; and Eden, NY.
With her husband, she enjoyed traveling and boating.
She was a member of St. Hyacinth’s Church.
In addition to her parents, Claire was predeceased by her husband, Charles; their infant son, Terrence; her brother Sean McGarigle; and her sister Terencia Michaels. She is survived by her brother Sebastian McGarigle of Bradenton, Florida; her sister Paula Gill of Dunkirk; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Burial will be in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery Friday at 10:30 AM with a graveside service.
