Charles W. Hubbard, 89, of South Dayton passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born in Villenova on Dec. 4 1934, the son of Clarence and Ruth (Bernett) Hubbard.
At the time of his retirement, Charles was a semi-truck driver for Hills Trucking., his truck driving continued into his 70s. Charles had owned his own semi and drove for Howards Lime Spreading and Petri Bakery.
Charles married the former Phyllis M. Matteson in South Dayton June 29, 1956.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years Phyllis (Matteson) Hubbard, four sons Terry (Becky) Hubbard of Gowanda, Rodney (Kathryn) Hubbard of North Collins, Kirk (Tammy) Hubbard of Little Valley, and Jamie (Diana) Hubbard of Fredonia; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; sister Elaine (late Kenneth) Johnson of Florida; several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother Donald (late Marylou) and sister Margaret (Lynn) Engle.
Charles loved his family, adored his wife, hunting, working outside, farming, trucking, and feeding his chipmunk friends. He was a strong man and always did whatever needed to support his friends and family.
As per Charles’ wishes, there will be a private ceremony, interment in the Cottage Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St., Gowanda.
