Edward Arthur Begier
Edward Arthur Begier, 77, of Stillwater, N.Y., passed away on July 18, 2024 following a brief illness. He was born to the late Arthur E. and Mary (Bialaszewski) Begier in Dunkirk, N.Y. on Aug. 9, 1946.
Edward attended Cardinal Mindszenty High School, graduating at 16 and began serving in the U.S. Navy at 17. He was a proud submariner and a “plank holder” on the USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN-641) and also served in the New York Army National Guard. He worked for the State of New York as a supervisory security guard at the New York State Capitol complex and retired in 2001.
He was a motorcyclist, coin collector, avid vegetable gardener, bird watcher, enjoyed small game & duck hunting and loved ice fishing with his son along with cheering for the Buffalo Bills (someday Bills, someday). He enjoyed music, following politics, discussing history, eating cookies made by his daughter, listening to talk radio, and admired the poetry of Robert Frost.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Gloria Ann (Karpowich); two children, Michael Joseph (Jenna) Begier of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Amy Lynn (Daniel) Shaver of Cambridge, New York, one grandchild, Morgan Shaver, and his favorite cat Ziva.
He is survived by two sisters, Donna Nimmon and Kathleen Briggs, his brother-in-law, Walter Karpowich along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding Edward are his sister Alicia “Carol” DeChard and brother Phillip Begier.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 PM Monday, July 29 at Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clement’s Church on Lake Ave. in Saratoga Springs on Tuesday, July 30 at 10 AM. Burial with military honors will be at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.
