Paul Lavern Rowe

Paul Lavern Rowe
Paul Lavern Rowe, a spry 97-year old from Portland, NY, decided it was time to take flight on February 27, 2021, soaring off into the great blue yonder. Born on September 12, 1923, Paul never missed a beat, or a joke, for that matter.
As a proud Portlander of the “Greatest Generation” and a card-carrying life-time member of the John W. Dill American Post 434 in Brocton, NY, Paul was more than just a local, he was a legend! His military service was nothing short of extraordinary, as he flew high with the US Army Air Force during World War II from 1945-1947, stationed in China. He collected medals like they were going out of style: the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (because he was always a gentleman), and the World War II Victory Medal.
He reunited with his co-pilot in life, his wife, Violet Liberator Rowe, who preceded him in the journey beyond.
Mark your calendars! We’re rolling out the red carpet for Paul’s grand finale with Full Military Honors at Portland Evergreen Cemetery on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. It’s not goodbye; it’s ‘see you later.’ So come one, come all dressed in your liveliest attire, and celebrate the high-flying spirit of a truly beloved character “The Mayor of Third Street” from the Portland/Brocton skies.
And because Paul never passed up a good meal, we’re keeping the tradition alive with a Friday night fish fry at none other than the Brocton Legion Mess Hall where tales of Paul’s adventures will lift spirits and honor a life truly lived.
