Charles C. Twichell
Charles C. “Chuck” Twichell, 98, of Ellicottville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born on May 4, 1926 in Gowanda, son of the late Lee and Alice (Congdon) Twichell. He was a US Navy veteran, serving from 1944-1946, having toured through the pacific during WWII. Chuck operated the family produce farm in Zoar Valley for many years, and had also worked at Congdon and Weller in North Collins for 10 years.
He married the former Virginia Lawrence, who predeceases him. Along with his wife, Chuck was a longtime member of Holimont in Ellicottville, and enjoyed his years of being a ski instructor there as well. He always enjoyed skiing, hunting, and fishing. He was also a member of the United Church in Ellicottville.
Mr. Twichell is survived by two sons Mark (Michelle) Twichell of Fredonia, and Tod (Sue) Twichell of Perry, OH, as well as a daughter, Nancy (Brad) Taylor of Ellicottville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Chuck is predeceased by a brother, Herbert Twichell and a sister, Mary Jensen.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to the Nannen Arboretum or the United Church of Ellicottville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley.
