Patricia (Pat) Alberta Everts (Halstead)

Patricia (Pat) Alberta Everts (Halstead), 97, of Westfield NY, went “home” to be greeted with the loving embrace of her heavenly family on July 28, 2024.

Born on March 22, 1927, in Shinglehouse, PA to Erton and Irene Halstead (Albright). The family moved to Westfield in 1930 and raised their family. She graduated in 1944 from Westfield Academy and Central School and has the distinction of being the last living member of her class.

After high school she met and married a handsome WWII Airforce pilot and 2nd Lt on May 24, 1947, they made their home in Westfield as well. She was employed for a time at First National bank, prior to deciding to dedicate her time to raising their four children. Once the children were grown, she again entered the banking profession with a position at Marine Midland Bank, remaining there until retirement in 1988. She filled her free time with Zonta, golfing, travel and of course family.

Whether employed or retired you could always count on a pristinely tidy home and unbelievably beautiful flower gardens surrounding it, always showcasing Tulips her absolute favorite. Gardening was one of most loved hobbies and she continued to keep up her gardens into her early 90’s. An avid knitter, she kept everyone in hats, Christmas stockings and lots and lots of dish clothes. Pat was an admirer of finer things, such as beautiful music, art, and food. Her recipes live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all across the country.

As great a cook as she was, her true claim to fame was her superb pie crust filled with the most delectable homemade fillings. For every holiday and sometimes just because it was a Tuesday, she would whip up an amazing pie using local fruits and adding the special touch and love that only she could. Her flaky, melt in your mouth desserts were the true piece de resistance to all the family gatherings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Marshall J Everts (d.2006) and her beloved first born daughter Bonita (d.2021), her older but vibrant sister Imogene (Halstead) Chaffee (d.1992) and her adored son-in-law David Santorno (d.2015)

Pat is survived by her children Gary Evert of Columbus OH, Laurie Santorno of Denver CO, and Barbara (Herb) Johnson of Westfield NY, who became her primary care givers for during her last years and made sure “Mom” was included in every event or gathering, whether she was able to attend or not. Additionally, near and dear to her heart were her Grandchildren Molly Brown (Jeremiah Raven), Nicole (Josh) McGraw, Graham Burdick-Everts (Trish Lowe), Devon (Kendall) Santorno, Melissa (Johnson) Perchy, Trixie Johnson who was not only a grand-daughter but a loving and dedicated care giver as well, Todd (Jen) Johnson and Amber (Cory)(Johnson) Maras. Great- grandchildren, Alexis (Nadine) Brown who was “her person” and mutually showered each other with so much loving and tender care over the years. Ashton Lucas (Becky Sullivan), Hallie Jean Raven, Addison and Eliana Mcgraw and Grace Santorno, Hunter, Logan and Michael Walczak, Nina, Julia and Brennan Johnson, Landon and Greyson Maras. Her loving cousins: Karen (Chaffee) Fraser, Long Beach Calif., Gail (Chaffee) and Stan Gardner, Long Beach, Calif.

Special thank you to Alice Alexander who started out as a house cleaner over 10 years ago and turned into a great friend and assisted in caring for Pat in the last years. Teresa Gervaise for making Pat feel like she was just having a friend over to visit while caring for and keeping her safe. Lastly, her faithful but illusive feline companion Chanel, who enjoyed her gentle quiet nature while getting pets and relaxing.

No visiting hours will be observed at Pat’s request. A small service and celebration of life will be held on August 10,2024 at First Baptist Church of Westfield 19 Union St, Westfield NY at 1 PM. With a gathering of fellowship to follow with light refreshments provided.

In lieu of flowers donations in Pat’s honor can be made to Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Center PO BOX 174, Westfield NY 14787 or Westfield Senior Citizens 58 S. Portage St, Westfield NY 14787.
