Josephine M. Leone

Josephine M. Leone, of Fredonia, New York, died at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab Center in Dunkirk, NY, Tuesday Sept. 3, 2024. She was born in North Collins, N.Y. Feb. 24, 1926, to the late George and Genevieve (DiCarlo) Leone. Raised in Fredonia, Josie was a graduate of Fredonia High School.
She was religious and devout to her faith as a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Church. Her faith in God was immeasurable. Josie shared her musical talents in many ways as she enjoyed performing at various health care facilities in the area.
She entertained family and friends by singing and playing her guitar and organ at parties and gatherings. Josie was well known for playing her “Trumpet” that she always had with her — her nose and her hands.
Above all, Josie had a positive outlook on life and was a pillar of strength to her family and friends.
Josie is survived by her sister, Geraldine (Leone) Pomroy of Fredonia, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers: Anthony, Louis and Russell Leone; her sister, Marie (Leone) Shaw; her niece, Jo Anne Leone, and best friend of 73 years, Leanora Zacharias. Josie is also survived by Mark and Leanora Zacharias’ daughters: Marlene, Carol and Susan. They considered Josie their second mother and they were as devoted, loved and were compassionate to her, as she was to them.
A private family visitation will be held at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia on Saturday at 9:30 a.m, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, (Corner of Cushing and Orchard Streets) Fredonia at 10:30 a.m. All are invited. Father Dan Walsh will be the celebrant.
