Tyler, TX – Susan Brown Smith, age 64, passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 28, 2024 with her loving family friend, Pamula Harrison, by her side. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Beverly and Glenn Brown, and son TJ Smith.
Susan graduated from Fredonia High School in 1977. She graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1981 with a Mathematics Education degree and went on to attain an administrative degree in Early Childhood. Wherever she went, she spread her love for learning and joy of music. She traveled the world and collected loving friends and family along the way. She has lived in Vermont, New York, Maryland, South Carolina, Japan, Virginia, and finally settled in Texas to be near her husband’s family. She became involved in the family’s church and participated in many mission outreach programs to include a mission trip to mainland China for 3 weeks in October of 2009. In 2010, Susan answered the call to the ministry with the United Methodist Church as a local pastor, serving the First United Methodist Church of Fruitvale, Texas, the Colfax Circuit in Van, TX, the First United Methodist Church of Grand Saline, Texas and most currently as the associate pastor at Fairwood United Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas.
Susan leaves behind her husband, Bruce T. (Tim) Smith, daughter-in-law, Skyla (TJ), daughter Brittany, and her adored grandchildren Jakob, Jordan, Koley, Everett and Saylor. There is nothing Susan would not do for her grandchildren. They were the loves of her life. She also leaves behind her beautiful rescue dogs; Sophie and Sadie.
Susan will be dearly missed by her family and many loving friends. She was laid to rest on September 6th in New Hope Cemetery, Mineola Texas. Any who wish, may make a donation to their local food bank or church in her honor. She’d love it if you turned on music and indulged in a sweet treat.
