Jay E. Olmstead Sr.

Kansas Mae Stein Cattaraugus - Kansas Mae Stein was born silent on September 21, 2024. Kansas was the deeply treasured and longed-for daughter of Kayl and Sierrah Stein. She leaves behind her sister, Kennedy Stein, and two brothers, Kannon and Knox Stein. Also surviving are paternal great-grandparents, Jan Stein of East Otto, and Pat (Dewey) Dankert of East Otto. Lovingly survived by paternal grandparents, Wayne (Deb) Stein of Cattaraugus, and maternal grandparents Rich Emery of Gowanda and Sonya Emery of Gowanda. Also survived by a paternal uncle and aunt, Tyler (Lilleigh) Stein of Cattaraugus, and a maternal uncle, Alex (Kelsey) Emery of Gowanda, and two maternal aunts, Andriah Emery of Rome, and Ashley Bond of Gowanda, as well as several great-aunts and uncles and cousins. Jay E. Olmstead Sr., 89, formerly of Sinclairville, passed away Oct 9, 2024. Born Aug. 10, 1935 in Ellington the son of the late Clifford Olmstead and Doris (Joe) Mead Woncki.

He was a self-employed dairy farmer from the age of 14 retiring in 2004. Jay also worked for nearly 10 years with the late Tommy Rossow and had previously worked in development and maintenance at the former Cockaign ski lodge.

He enjoyed having meals and coffee with the Sinclairville Superette crew, spending time with his and his son’s sled dogs and most importantly time with his family.

Husband of 64 years to the late Gail Reynolds Olmstead whom he married Oct. 6, 1954 and who died Sept. 6, 2018; father of Joyce Crandall of Jamestown, Bonnie (late Paul) Sischoof Cherry Creek, Jay (Sherla) Olmstead, Jr., Teri (late Lewie) Nickerson all ofSinclairville and the late Donna (Michael of Jamestown) Brezner; grandfather of, Michael and Jamie Crandall, Joshua and Cassey (Jarrod) Brezner, Jason (Niki) and Cody(Suzy) Sischo, Edward and Wynter (Cody VanGuilder) Nickerson; great grandfather of, Miranda (Shawn Marvin) and Gaven (Haily Tripp) Crandall, Collen, Madison, Aiden and Isabelle Sischo; great great-grandfather of Weston and Ellison Marvin and Tyler Crandall; brother of the late Viola Edson and Lucille Lundgren. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation 4-7 p.m. Monday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Private burial inEvergreen Cemetery.
