1944-2024
Richard “Dick” H. Briggs, 79, of Cattaraugus, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 at his home. He was born on Oct. 22, 1944 in Buffalo. son of the late Harry and Eunice (Harper) Briggs. On Nov. 6, 1965 he married the former Janice Fox, who survives. He was a US Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War in the Signal Corp.
For over 60 years he owned and operated Briggs’ Signs, where he mastered the art of pinstriping. He was well known for his work on thousands of cars, trucks, and signs. Dick perfectly maintained his lawn and grounds around their house, and enjoyed drawing, and writing. He also was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed boating, and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons.
Besides his loving wife of 58 years, Dick is survived by a son, Eric (Melissa) Briggs of Brunswick, GA, and a sister, Christine Silsbee of Canandaigua, NY, as well as several nieces.
Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024 from 10 am to 1 pm from Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1 pm from the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be in Liberty Park Cemetery.
