Sally A. Stege

Sally A. Steger passed away Sunday October 27, 2024. Sally was born September 24, 1935, on Farmingdale Road in Sheridan, New York, daughter of the late Stanley and Susan Bialaszewski.

She grew up on a farm and was the youngest of nine children. In her early years, she and others who lived on the farms walked to and from St. Hyacinth’s School on Lake Shore Drive in Dunkirk. In later years, they were bused to school but still had to walk from Farmingdale Road to Middle Road to catch the school bus. After school there was always work to attend to on the farm first, tending to all the animals or harvesting the crops.

In her late teens she met her husband, Roger, who also helped with many chores on the farm. In 1955, Roger and Sally married and began a family of their own. Together they had six children, Sandra Gennuso, Donald (Catherine) Steger, Dale (Cheryl) Steger, Rodney (Rhonda) Steger, Harry Steger, and Sharon (Tom) Atwell. They were blessed with 10 grandchildren Tara McCoy, Kahl VanKoughnet, Benjamin Steger, Clarrisa Torrence, Alexander Steger, Jesse Atwell, Lucas Atwell,Thomas Steger, Jacob Steger, Leanne Steger, and five great grandchildren, Ethan Torrence,Arlington Atwell, Owen Torrence, Violet McCoy and Poppy Steger.

Sally was employed by the Faculty Student Association at SUNY Fredonia for twenty years,working in the college’s bookstore.

Sally was predeceased by her husband Roger (January 5, 2019), brothers Stephen Bialaszewski, John Bialaszewski, Peter Bialaszewski, Bernard Bialaszewski, Richard Bialaszewski, sisters Elenore Bielat, Dorothy Hudzinski, and granddaughter Samantha Steger.

Sally is also survived bysister Jane Mikula and many nieces and nephews.

Sally enjoyed flower gardening, building puzzles, and bird watching, especially Baltimore Orioles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.

Visitation will be Wednesday 4-7pm at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y. where prayers will be offered Thursday morning at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 145 E. Main Street, Fredonia, NY at 11am.
