Katharine C. “Kitty” Mead

Katharine C. “Kitty” Mead, 78, of Fredonia, NY, died Monday, April 14, 2025 at Buffalo General Hospital. Kitty was born on Sept. 16, 1946 in Silver Creek, NY, daughter of Raymond and Katharine “Sis” (Griffin) Clark. Raised in Silver Creek, Kitty graduated from Silver Creek High School. She earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Alfred State College. On June 25, 1966 she married Byron W. Mead. The couple had been married 56 years at the time of his passing in 2023. In 1974 Kitty and her husband, Byron, purchased the Fredonia Glass Company, now owned by her sons Michael and William Mead. Kitty continued assisting her sons in business up until her recent illness. She also worked as the manager of the Time-Warner Cable store for 25 years.

Kitty was active in the community as she was a member of the Fredonia Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, where she served as president. She was also a member of the Fredonia Methodist Church. Kitty enjoyed reading and traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending the recitals and sporting events.

Kitty is survived by her two sons Michael T. Mead and his spouse, Patricia (Mallory) Mead, of Dunkirk, and their son, Brennan Mead; William L. Mead and his spouse Melissa (Stanwyck) Mead, of Fredonia, and their daughters, Michaela and Alexis Mead, and their son, Stephen Mead; a sister, JoAnn Jones, of North Carolina; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Byron W. Mead.

Calling hours will be held at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY today from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Fredonia Methodist Church, 25 Church St.,

Fredonia, NY on Saturday at 11 am. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial contributions in Kitty’s memory may be made to the Fredonia Fire Dept.,
