Timothy I. Powell, 74, of Portland, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1950 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of Irving and Elenor (nee Raynor) Powell. He married the love of his life Deborah Baldwin on Aug. 7, 1971 in Eldred, Pa.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife Deborah J. Powell of Portland, NY; two loving children, Nicole W. (Douglas) Walter of Portland, NY and Kevin (Amber) Powell of Ashville, NY; five cherished grandchildren, Devin (Martina) and Derek Walter, Hope, Joshua and Hannah Powell; his father, Irving Powell of Portland, NY; two brothers, Jeffrey (Savina) Powell of VA Beach, VA, William “Bill” Powell of Portland, NY, Jennifer (late Dennis) Norton of Jensen Beach, Fla. and Susan (James) Walker of Forestville, NY; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother, Elenor Powell.
Tim was a lifelong area resident graduated from Brocton High School in 1969. He grew up and worked on the family grape farm “Powell Vineyards” in Portland, NY for his entire life. He belonged to the Portland Congregational Church, Portland Volunteer Fire Station 1, past member of the Westfield Moose Lodge #118 and was a current member of the Sons of the American Legion in Brocton, NY.
Tim, a hard worker, with a “Green Thumb, ” enjoyed growing all types of vegetables, tomatoes and berries. Hunting and fishing were a part of his life as was wintering at the family home in Jensen Beach. But most of all his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Friends may call at the Mason Funeral home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 4-7 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Portland Congregational Church, 8649 Church St. Portland, NY at 11AM. Interment will be private in the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. The family suggest memorial contributions in Tim’s memory be made to the Portland Congregational Church or the Portland Fire Department.
