Anne Marie (Rotunda) Dean

Anne Marie (Rotunda) Dean

Anne Marie (Rotunda) Dean, 74, born in Dunkirk, NY, passed away on June 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Raised in Fredonia, NY, Anne was the heart and soul of her family–a devoted and hardworking mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.

Anne’s life was a beautiful example of strength, generosity, and unwavering love. She raised her children with compassion, patience, and humor, instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and family. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her heart always giving. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome and loved through her comforting presence, thoughtful gestures, and her famous home-cooked meals that brought generations together.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Dean; her sons Christopher Gilray, Jake (Jennifer) Gilray, Paul (Joanne) Gilray; and her stepchildren Kim (Penn) Holderness and K.C. (Katie) Dean. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings, Sandy (Kathy) Rotunda, Ginger (Gene) Thorne, Barbara Henry, Chaz Butcher, and sister-in-law, Janice Dean.

Anne was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ashleigh (Dylan) Tyson, Kristen (Ian) McLean, their mother, Toni Gilray, as well as Faith Gilray, Campbell Gilray, Bianca (Bobby) Dwyer, Brittany (Andoni) Goitiz, Kiernan Dean, Lola Holderness, and Penn Charles Holderness. One of her greatest joys was watching her family grow, and she was overjoyed to welcome her great-grandson, Landyn Tyson, into the world.

Anne found joy in the simple, meaningful things–spending time with family, caring for the farm in Fredonia, baking, and sharing stories and wisdom with her children and grandchildren. She carried herself with grace and grit, a steady presence in times of celebration and challenge alike. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped and the love she shared.

Though she is no longer with us in person, Anne’s spirit lives on in every meal shared, every story retold, and every quiet moment of love passed from one generation to the next. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered–always.
