Irene M. Drag

Irene M. Drag, 98, of Dunkirk, passed away Monday afternoon, June 2, 2025 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk. Born in Dunkirk on August 24, 1926, daughter of the late Louis and Maryann (Zatorski) Drag.

A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Irene graduated from Dunkirk High School. For over 15 years, Irene dedicated herself to her work as a nurses aide at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center. Her commitment to her work as a nurses aide reflected her deep compassion for others.

Irene was known for her happy and cheerful demeanor, characterized by her independent and loving nature. She was a dedicated member of the Blessed Mary Angela Roman Catholic Church of St. Hyacinth, finding joy and purpose in her faith and community involvement. She was also a member of CSEA.

In her free time, Irene enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to Polka music, and embracing her creative side through crocheting and sewing. She was especially fond of cooking, particularly her beloved pierogies.

Irene is survived by her sister Frances Auleta; nieces Mary Beth Auleta,Terry Auleta, Patricia Kucmierz, Ann Kirby, and Mary McCarthy; nephews Walter Drag, Anthony Kucmierz, Ronald Kucmierz, Richard Kucmierz, Michael and John Auleta. Also survived by many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her brother Walter F. Drag, Sr., sister Genevieve Kucmierz; niece Cheryl Auleta and nephews Eugene, Stephen, and Edward Kucmierz and Thomas Auleta.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Friday, June 6, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Mary Angela Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will be held in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery.
