James Vernon Meder (Jim)
James Vernon Meder (Jim), 71, passed away unexpectedly in Rome, Italy doing what he loved, traveling with his grandson Ethan. He was born in Jamestown, NY and graduated from Cassadaga High school in 1972. He received his associate’s degree from Jamestown Community College in 1974.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and appreciating wildlife and nature. He loved to travel and explore nature parks. Spending time with his children and grandchildren brought him much joy. He loved his house on Bear Lake and spent a lot of time first building his house, then caring for the land, and appreciating the lake and all the seasons spent there. He loved his brothers, and loved spending time with them, often in the woods, on the lake or at his dad’s house. He was an active lifetime member of the Stockton Volunteer Fire Department with over 50 years of experience where he served for many years as Chief, and holding multiple other offices. He was instrumental in founding the Oddfellows Hunt Club and a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Cassadaga American Legion, Post 1280. His career as a supervisor in manufacturing was spent at companies including Essex, Lilly, GeniCore and ending his career at The Carriage House.
He is survived by his father, Charles Meder, daughter Beth (Tim Hathaway) Starks, a son James (Andie) Meder, his grandchildren, Ethan, Aiden, and Ella Starks and Gigi Meder, his brothers Rick (Debby) Meder, Don (Colleen) Meder, Bryan (Michelle) Meder, Bob (Becky)Meder, Mark (Kim) Meder and dozens of nieces and nephews.
He was welcomed into heaven by his mother, Donna Meder and brother William Meder.
Family and friends will be received at the Jordan Funeral Home for a memorial service on Thursday, June 5 from 2-4 PM, a remembrance service will be held from 4-5 PM where family and friends are encouraged to share stories to celebrate Jims life.
