John L. Burt

John L. Burt, 75, of Silver Creek, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Silver Creek on Aug. 11, 1949 the son of the late John L. and Margaret (nee Barone) Burt. He married the former Sharon Benz on Aug. 3, 1974 in Sheridan, NY.
He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1968 and completed several college courses at E.C.C.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Burt of Silver Creek; a devoted son Jeffrey (Jojean Quejada) Burt of San Francisco, CA; two step-grandchildren, Ernesto and Gara Manaois both of Union City, CA; a dear brother Dale (Geri) Burt, a nephew John M. Burt; also survived by many cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Burt. John and his brother shared much love for each other.
John worked for the NY State Department of Corrections as a motor vehicle operator retiring in 2011.
He was a true car guy. Tinkering with his own cars from an early age and then always willing to help a family member or friend in need of repair. An avid fan of NHRA funny car driver John Force and for many years he attended the spring Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
John was a man of many interests whether it was downhill skiing with his son in Vermont, Tahoe, or Colorado, he was always up for the adventure. He enjoyed many road trips with his buddies to many places but his all time favorite was to the Tale of the Dragon in North Carolina. He and his wife enjoyed many trips to CA to visit their son’s family over the years. Also after his retirement he enjoyed many trips in the US.
John was a member of the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Co. for several years and also belonged to the Huntley Hose Fire Co.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY at 10AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dunkirk, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to the Amyloidosis Research Consortium, 320 Nevada St., Suite 210 Newton, MA 02460 or to the Silver Creek Emergency Squad.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY.
