Howard “Steve” Gloss

Howard “Steve” Gloss

Howard “Steve” Gloss of Dunkirk, NY, passed on to “Look at clouds from both sides now,” on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 17, 1953, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary J. (Tye) whom he married on Sept. 9, 1978, his daughter, Nichole (Gary) Derenda of North Buffalo; son, Michael Stephen, of Orchard Park; grandchildren Kaylee and Cristian; sisters Shannon Fisk of Brocton, Sheila Gloss of California, Lisa (Todd) Eggleston and Penny (Al Pacos) Gummo of Fredonia, sister-in-law Patricia Tefft of Florida; and his parents, Adrienne Kubasik Fisk of Brocton, and Howard R., and Patricia Gloss of Fredonia.

Howie retired in 2010 from United Parcel Service after 30 years as a delivery driver. He also served as a councilman for the town of Sheridan for 12 years from Jan. 1, 1992 to Dec. 31, 2003.

Growing up in Dunkirk until his Sophomore year in high school, Howie’s family then moved to Greencrest and he graduated from Brocton Central in 1971. He attended Jamestown Community College, and then The Ohio Institute of Technology in Columbus, Ohio, where he received his diploma for Electronics Technician. In later years, he studied courses in Economics through Empire State at SUNY Fredonia.

Howie thoroughly enjoyed family and friends’ vacations to many places in the US, and to Mexico and the Caribbean. He loved his retirement home in Florida where he and Mary spent winter months over the last 10 years.

He was a dedicated Bills fan and attended games both home and away. Howie also enjoyed many years of golfing (especially with his dad, “Smokey”), and was a member of the Gene Andolina Golf League for many years, and was in league bowling. He also truly enjoyed hanging out with his brother, and his friends.

Howard is predeceased by his brother, Michael J. Gloss; stepfather, Albert Fisk; and brothers-in-law Donald Tefft, and James Tiernan.

Howard reiterated many times how very much he appreciated and was grateful for his life and his blessings. He will be terribly missed by all of his family, and his passing will leave an emptiness for many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, we’re very sure Howie would like donations to go to the Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department, or a local food bank, or any helpful charity.

Visitation will be held at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025 from 1- 2 pm where memorial service will follow at 2 pm. Online condolences may be made at larsontimkofuneralhome.com. Arrangements by David J. Dengler.
