John F. McQuiggan

John F. McQuiggan, 92, of Dunkirk, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 26, 2025 at Brooks Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born on July 9, 1933 in Dunkirk, he was the husband of Nina McQuiggan and son of the late George and Evelyn (Hayes) McQuiggan.

John attended St. Mary’s High School, but his desire to serve his country led him to enlist in the United States Air Force at the young age of 17. He dedicated over two decades to the military, serving as a Missile Technician and ultimately retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1971. His military journey was marked by his time stationed in Bermuda, where he met the love of his life, Nina.

Professionally, John spent 20 years as a Maintenance Technician at M. Wiles until the closing of the company. His meticulous work ethic and dedication to his responsibilities were evident in every task he undertook.John was known for his kind heart and a love for storytelling. His family was of utmost importance to him, and he often displayed his affection in unique ways, such as giving nicknames to his grandchildren and gifting them with a dollar whenever they visited. He took great pride in his yard and enjoyed spending time outdoors, often fishing and hunting, which were among his favorite pastimes. His passions extended to stamp collecting, genealogy, and a long-standing love for bowling, along with a fondness for watching golf and football during his later years.

Surviving John includes his loving wife of 73 years, Nina (Seymour) McQuiggan, whom he married on April 22, 1952; loving children: Gerald (Roxanne) McQuiggan, William R. McQuiggan, David (Kate) McQuiggan and Michael (Lynne) McQuiggan; grandchildren: Christopher (Ellie) McQuiggan, Patrick (Lindsey) McQuiggan, John McQuiggan, David (Jennifer) McQuiggan II, Ryan McQuiggan, Charlene (Joel) Biscaro, Joshua McQuiggan and Joshua (Chelsea) Ganey; great-grandchildren Liam, Maicelyn, Isaiah, Kadaedence, Jaydon, Mackenzie, Kylie, Zachary, Haleigh, Gavin, Anthony, Molly, Dawson, Bridget, Gwendolyn, Fiona, Lillian, Alexander, Aubriana, Charlotte and Amelia; great-great grandchildren Ananias, Jayce, and Sienna. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Janet, Carol, and Joanne McQuiggan and his brothers, George, Richard, Robert, Gerald, Joseph, and Milton McQuiggan and a granddaughter, Alaina Leckliter.

Funeral services were held yesterday, Sept. 29, 2025 at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc.; 56 East Doughty St., Dunkirk, NY. Interment will be held in private.
