Kevin Rowson

Kevin Rowson, age 72, of Kennesaw, passed away suddenly on Aug. 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents John (late Elizabeth Orrange) Rowson and his sister Christine Rowson. Kevin is survived by his wife Karen and children Sydney (Toby) and Alec (Fathma). He is also survived by his siblings Mark (Vicki) Rowson, Terrance (Maureen) Rowson, Michelle Harsch, Mary (David) Payne and Margaret (Keith) Usey and many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Fredonia, New York, Kevin graduated from the University of Detroit and spent over three decades in news. Kevin built a reputation as one of Atlanta’s most respected reporters, known for his tenacity, compassion, and integrity. He began his media career in radio in mid-1970, then transitioned to television. First at WCSC-TV in Charleston, SC, then on to WWOR-TV in Secaucus, NJ, and WNBC in New York City. Kevin moved to Atlanta in 1994 to join WXIA-TV, 11Alive. Kevin had a passion for telling stories about crime in the city and had a gift for connecting with victims and their families. Kevin was inducted into the Southeast Chapter National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Silver Circle – an honor recognizing over 25 years of broadcast excellence. He was also recognized as a recipient of an Edward R. Murrow Award for his outstanding achievements in broadcast journalism. After his departure from 11 Alive, Kevin embarked on a second career as a Public Affairs Specialist for the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office, trading in his reporter’s notepad for a position as a spokesperson. Kevin especially treasured the more regular hours that allowed him to spend more time with his family. Recently retired, Kevin enjoyed trips to Europe with his wife, Karen, as well as golf, attending concerts and professional sports events, and sharing a glass of beer with friends and family. Kevin was a grill-master, avid music-lover, devoted father, and a lifelong passionate member of the Buffalo Bills Mafia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kennesaw, Georgia, followed by a Celebration of Life at Hudson Grille in Kennesaw at 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Visitation will be held the evening prior to the service at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. His final resting place will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his integrity, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to NPR or to your local Public Broadcasting Service in honor of Kevin’s career in journalism and his lifelong commitment to reliable reporting for all.
