Mary R. Matthews of Gowanda, NY, entered into rest on Sept. 18, 2025, at the age of 86. She was the devoted wife of the late Jon Matthews. She was the beloved daughter of the late Genevieve (Bottom) and Fred Wells of Cattaraugus, and the last surviving child of their family.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Kathryn (Paul) Scherlek of Cambridge Springs, PA., Susan (Lawrence) Reumann of Conewango Valley, Mary Ann Falcone of Columbus, OH., Elizabeth (Gerald) D’Amaro of Gowanda, and Stephen (Andrea) Matthews of Thurmont, MD. Mary’s legacy also lives on through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy.
Mary retired from Gowanda Psychiatric Center. She was a woman of many talents who found happiness in nature, gardening, and countless hobbies and crafts.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Mary’s life on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, from 2-4 PM at the D’Amaro residence, at 2074 Smithcrest Dr., Gowanda, NY 14070.
