Thomas E. Banach

Thomas E. Banach, 82, of Dunkirk, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2025 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. Born in Dunkirk on July 27, 1943, he was the husband of the late Sylvia J. (Roesler) Banach and son of the late Edward and Eleanor (Cybulski) Banach.

A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Thomas graduated from Dunkirk High School. Following his education, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963 and was stationed in Germany. Tom dedicated over 25 years of his career as a truck driver for Preston Trucking Co.

Known for his good-natured demeanor, Tom was a caring individual who loved life and held a deep affection for his family. He is remembered as a loving and generous person who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly grilling for his loved ones, earning him the affectionate title of “grill master.” His interests were varied, ranging from golfing to visiting the casino, and he was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Memberships include the VFW, American Legion Post 62, Columbus Club and the Lakeside Club. Tom was also the former Commander of the Frank Aquavia Memorial Post 1344 and played the bugle for the Dunkirk Patriot Drum & Bugle Corp.

Thomas is survived by his loving companion of 12 years Jo Ann Szary, brother Timothy Banach, son-in-law Dave Nadeau, and his sister-in-law Julie Banach. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia (Roesler) Banach; children Kelly Banach and Tommy “Banch” Banach; siblings Gary Banach and Cindy Case.

There will be no prior visitation held. Relatives and Friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Sept., 20, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church; 1032 Central Ave, Dunkirk, NY. Military Honors will be held by the Dunkirk Joint Veteran Council immediately following the mass. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY. Interment will be held in private.
