Lillian A. (Burke) Cook

Lillian A. (Burke) Cook, 78, of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025 at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Dunkirk on May 11, 1947, she was the wife of the late William D. Cook and daughter of the late William E. and Maude (Buttele) Burke.

A graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School, Lillian further pursued her passion for helping others, completing her nursing education in 1968. Her career was marked by over 40 years of dedicated service at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

Lillian was deeply proud of her family, who were the focal point of her life. Her unwavering commitment to their well-being was evident in her actions every day. A generous and compassionate soul, she was known for her fun-loving spirit and readiness to support those around her.

In her leisure time, Lillian enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She found solace in reading, sudoku puzzles, and watching the TV show “Criminal Minds.” Moreover, her love of music, particularly from the 50s and 60s, brought comfort and happiness, with artists like John Denver, the Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, and the Jersey Boys resonating deeply in her heart.

Lillian is survived by her loving sons, William (Michelle) and Richard Cook; grandchildren, Nick Scheffield, Allie, Daniel, Jonathan, and Cameron Cook; great-granddaughter, Ember Sheffield; her brother Rev. Richard Burke and she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Poncharik and Ellen Burke, as well as her brother, Michael Burke.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc.; 56 East Doughty St., Dunkirk, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be held in Willowbrook Park Cemetery Columbarium.
