Michael J. Granto

Michael J. Granto, 84, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away on Sept. 19, 2025. He was born on July 29, 1941, in Dunkirk, New York, to Joseph S. and Catherine J. (DeTolla) Granto.

Mike graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1959 and went on to attend the University of Buffalo. In January 1960, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the Marines, Mike rose to the rank of Sergeant, served in Vietnam, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also served as a Drill Instructor before concluding his service in 1967.

Mike is survived by his sons, Joe Granto and his wife, Cheryl, Mark Granto and his partner, Galena; and his grandsons, Michael Granto and Daniel Granto. He is also remembered with love by his stepdaughter, Susan Herbst (Pedro) Soto, whose care and compassion meant so much to him in recent years. Additional loved ones include Lesley Ochlis and Sara Herbst, as well as his sisters: Margaret Kearney, Jeannette Tuczynski, and Risha Formanowicz. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Catherine Michelle, and his soulmate and wife, Barbara Herbst Granto.

A local Celebration of Life memorial will be planned for the Spring of next year.
