Muchell E. Gibbs Vahl, 79, of Clymer, NY, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at the Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care’s Star Hospice House, following a lengthy battle with dementia, and a recent battle with cancer. She was born July 22, 1946, in Westfield, New York, the daughter of the late Erlyn and Helen Stewart Gibbs.
She was a 1964 graduate of Chautauqua Central School. She had earned an Associate’s Degree in Business from Jamestown Business College and had worked as an Administrative Assistant for Chautauqua County in Mayville in the Small Business and Workman’s Compensation office.
Muchell was very active in the Chautauqua County Democratic Party. She was a member of the WNY Pony Association, the Democratic Committee to Re-elect, a volunteer at the Town of Mina Elections, the Vikings Club, and participated in 4H in her younger years. She enjoyed crafting, yoga, gardening (Day Lillies), and her horses, which she won many awards with.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Kyed of Horsens, Denmark, a brother, Thomas (Judy) Gibbs of Mayville, NY, her nieces and nephews, Kristen (Jorgen) Laursen of Denmark, Thomas (Simone) Kyed of Denmark, Stephanie (Soren) Aspestrand of Denmark, Shawn (Danielle) Gibbs of Mebane, SC, Erynne (David Shaffer) Gibbs of Honeyoye, NY, three step nieces and nephew, Kimberly Keller of Sugar Grove, PA, Deborah (Paul) Carges of Akron, NY, and Larry (Vicki) Oaks of Sugar Grove, PA, four step children, Carl Vahl, Rick (Jennifer) Vahl, Cathy Vahl and Cindy Vahl, her great nieces and nephews, Anne Sophie Laursen, Mads Laursen, Viggo Kyed, Ella Kyed, Angelina Aspestrand, Vincent Aspestrand and Theodor Aspestrand, Kaden Gibbs, Ryen Gibbs, Gavin Gibbs, Ashley (Jake Rulander) Pitner, Nicholas (Melissa) Pitner, Alex (Jenny Johnson) Keller, Shane, and Toby Sanders, Danielle (Aaron) Culbertson, Krystal and Katelyn Oaks. And five great nieces and nephews, Glade, Cric, and Hayes Rulander, Amara Pitner, and Adeline Keller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, C. Ronald Vahl, whom she married on Oct. 8, 1982.
The funeral will be held at 11 AM on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev Mark Teets will officiate. Burial will be in the Mina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 PM on Thursday, Oct 30th and for one hour before the funeral on Friday, 10 AM – 11 AM.
