Carl William Sheridan
Carl William Sheridan
Carl William Sheridan, 85, of Cattaraugus-Little Valley, NY, passed away peacefully on Nov. 19, 2025. Born on May 3, 1940, in Mansfield, NY, Carl lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to his family, and a passion for the open road.
A lifelong truck driver, Carl found joy in traveling across the country, embracing the freedom of the highway and the stories found along the way. He was a good storyteller, known for spinning tales that blended humor, memory, and a touch of mischief.
Carl was a strong-willed man, some would even say stubborn, who was true to what he believed was
right and had an unshakeable desire to do things his way. He had a great sense of humor and could
be quite sarcastic — a trait that brought laughter and amusement to those around him. He was widely
admired for his exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Carl was also a great mechanic, and pretty much every skill he possessed was self-taught. He loved restoring vehicles and spent countless hours in the garage working on them. He was a devoted Ford lover, known for his appreciation of classic models and loyalty to the brand — his most recent purchase was a 1976 Ford pickup.
Carl was a son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend. Throughout his life, Carl remained a steadfast supporter of veterans and gave generously to a wide range of nonprofit organizations committed to helping others.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Margaret Green Sheridan Windsor and William Neal Sheridan; his brother, Louis Sheridan; his longtime companion, Betty Yehl; and his son, Scott (Pam) Sheridan. He is survived by his children: Eric (Cindy) Sheridan of Wentzville, MO; Daniel (Debbie) Sheridan of Fredonia, NY; Rodney (Sandy) Sheridan of Fredonia, NY; Lisa (Jadd) Peters of Bel Air, MD; and Julie Sheridan Oakes of Abingdon, MD.
Carl is also survived by his siblings: Diane Oyler, Sandra Payne, Cleo (Mary) Sheridan, and Althea
Sturtevant; his grandchildren: Jeff Sheridan, Joe Sheridan, Ryan Sheridan, Brittany Sheridan, Kristi
Sheridan, Shannon Sheridan, Derek Sheridan, Matt (Mallory) Sheridan, Makenzie Oakes, Joza Peters, and Chay Peters; and his great-grandchild, Colbyn Burdeaux.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held in the Spring of 2026, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of a life well lived.
Arrangements are by the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc; 56 E. Doughty St., Dunkirk, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in his name.
