Janet M. Pincoski

Janet M. Pincoski

Janet M. Pincoski, 72, of Dunkirk, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. Born in Willoughby, Ohio on May 26, 1953, she lived in several areas throughout the United States while growing up- including Valley Forge, PA, Silver Spring, MD, and North Olmsted, Ohio. She graduated from North Olmsted High School in 1971, and chose to study nutrition at Bowling Green State University. After graduating from BGSU in 1975, Janet accepted a Quality Control position at Kraft Foods in Dunkirk, NY-where she met and fell in love with her husband. She later joined Chautauqua Opportunities, working in the WIC program as a nutritionist. While serving in this role, she was able to help countless local families receive early child interventions services.

Janet was a devoted mother to her three boys. She loved them dearly and was proud to watch them grow into fine, upstanding young men. She also loved her grandchildren, creating special memories with them by baking elaborate, themed cakes for every birthday; making Christmas cookies together; setting up Easter egg hunts (and always managing to hide at least one egg just a little too well!); roasting s’mores around the campfire; and cheering them on at countless sporting events and dance competitions.

Jan was a lover of musical theater and Broadway shows, especially Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, and Wicked. She was also a big fan of Dancing with the Stars, and most weeknights could be found in her living room, giving the contestants on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy a run for their money.

In her spare time, Jan spent a lot of time in her garden, tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was an avid reader, and liked to keep her mind sharp by working on jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. She enjoyed quality time with her sister-in-law Janice including holiday shopping, spending time with her siblings and their families, and attending NASCAR races. She loved travel and the outdoors, combining both recently by completing a cross-country trip to Colorado in her RV. She camped with her family throughout NY state, preparing their favorite meals and sitting by the fire telling stories.

Janet was also very talented in the kitchen. She enjoyed cooking large holiday feasts and experimenting with new recipes, along with her signature homemade specialities like applesauce, marinara, banana and pumpkin bread, and English Muffin bread.

There are few people who knew Jan who were not also the recipient of one of her treasured fleece tie blankets. She never missed an opportunity to visit JoAnn Fabrics and add to her collection of fleece-always anticipating the next milestone event, holiday, or other special occasion that would be worthy of a new blanket. She thoughtfully selected prints and patterns and paired them with complementing solids-ensuring the blanket was not just functional, but also a showpiece for the home.

Janet was not only devoted to her family, but to her community as well. She and Gene volunteered hundreds of hours at fundraisers for their church and school-including chicken barbeques, casino nights, craft shows, breakfasts with Santa, and lawn festivals. They especially enjoyed running the kitchen at these events, and coming up with games and prizes for the kids.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Eugene Pincoski; her three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael Pincoski, Timothy Pincoski (Jennifer), and Brian Pincoski (Joy); five grandchildren, Adam Pincoski, Hailey Pincoski, Curtis Johnson, Camron Johnson, and Danielle Johnson; two sisters and one brother, Linda Linaburg (Earl), Ronald Bechtol (Cynthia), and Judith Galatic (William); her brother-in-law, Richard Pincoski (Margaret); sister-in-law, Janice Pincoski; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ellen (Goodrich) Bechtol.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc.; 56 East Doughty St., Dunkirk, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Mary Angela Roman Catholic Church of St. Hyacinth; 295 Lake Shore Dr E, Dunkirk, NY.
