Judith Faye Waterman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025.
Judy was born in Dunkirk on July 9, 1941, to Florence (Palmatier) and Frederick Waterman. She grew up on Roosevelt Avenue and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1959 and SUNY Fredonia in 1963. She taught for 32 years at Brocton Central School in different elementary levels.
After retirement, Judy kept very busy. She was always the first person to lend a hand to family, friends, or anyone in need. She served in many capacities at St. John’s Church, on the pastor search committee, as council president, and several other offices. She was on the board of directors for Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center, delivered meals on wheels, and ushered at Fredonia State events.
She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and spent several winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. Golf was a passion of hers, playing in several golf leagues through the years. Judy was also active in the Chautauqua Tennis Club, the Beaver Club, and American Association of University Women. Judy was in the St. John’s Bell Choir and played clarinet in the New Horizons Band of WNY.
In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick, Robert, Marvin, and Ronald, sister Patricia, and sisters in law Phyllis, Theresa, and Margaret.
She is survived by her brother, Carl Waterman, sister, Nancy Kelly, sisters-in-law Belva, Joann, Lois, and Carole, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025 at Noon at St. John’s Church; 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY. Interment will be held in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to St. John’s church or Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center.
