Jane E. Love
Jane E. Love, 69, of Fredonia, New York, passed away in Buffalo on February 16th after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a respected Attorney, and a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Born in Kansas City, MO, Ms. Love received an undergraduate degree from Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA, where she met her husband of 45 years, John Hansen. She completed her Law degree at Suffolk College in Boston, MA. After moving to Fredonia in late 1984, she worked as a practicing lawyer for 42 years. From 1985 to the end of 1987, she was the first woman to be City Attorney for the City of Dunkirk. In 1988, she went to work for the Chautauqua County government as an Assistant County Attorney and later an Assistant Social Services Attorney, protecting vulnerable children from abuse and neglect. She was promoted to First Assistant Social Services Attorney in June 2009 and held that position until her retirement in September 2017.
In addition to her professional service, earlier in her career she served on the boards of the Chautauqua County Hotline for Rape and Battering as well as the Campus and Community Childern’s Center in Fredonia. She was also a proud champion of other women attorneys. After retirement, Ms. Love traveled widely. She particularly loved visiting the beach and her grandsons. She also enjoyed attending live theater.
Ms. Love is survived by her husband, John A. Hansen, PhD; her sons, Eric L. (Mary Olive) Hansen and Ross L. Hansen; and her grandsons, Bryce Hansen and John “Jack” Hansen.
In accordance with Ms. Love’s final wishes, no immediate funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Ms. Love’s name to a shelter for at-risk women and children in your own community, a cause Ms. Love long supported.
