Lucille MacCubbin

Lucille MacCubbin, 96, passed away at Brooks Memorial hospital after complications from a fall. Born on March 20, 1929, in Mansfield NY to the late Alice M (Roesch) and Pearl A. Purdy.

She was a proud graduate of the Class of 1948 from Silver Creek High School.

Lucille’s career as a waitress at the Vineyard Restaurant spanned many years, where she became known for her gracious service and personable nature. She took immense pride in her work, always ensuring that her patrons felt welcomed and valued. After her retirement, Lucille devoted her time to caring for her husband until his passing in 2002, demonstrating her unwavering commitment and love.

She was a woman of remarkable strength and independence. Known for her quick wit, she brought joy and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In her leisure time, Lucille found joy in a variety of hobbies. She was an avid crocheter, creating numerous blankets for her grandchildren, which serve as lasting memories of her love. Gardening brought her happiness as she tended to her flowers, adding beauty to her surroundings. Additionally, she nurtured her creative side through crafting with beads and was known for her enthusiastic love of reading.

Lucille was also a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Dunkirk, where she participated in numerous fundraising events.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Dyanne (Jim) Seeley Gribble of Sherman , Susan (Don) Denny of Derby, and Janice Penharlow, of Fredonia. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Melissa Callahan of West Seneca, Kara (Cal) Saletta of Fredonia, Amber (Jon) Hubbard of Dunkirk, Chad Paolini of Fredonia, Tiffany Yerico of Fredonia, Dr Olivia (Ted) Widger and Allison (McCall) Tyler of Washington DC; 15 great-grandchildren, Katelynn Dimmer, Kye and Coen Saletta, Jonas Waller, Jayden, Evelyn, and Violet Yerico, Emily and Jude Callahan, Jocelyn Koch, Charles, Clara, and Elsie Widger, Alexander LaPrade , and Caleb Tyler; two great-great grandsons , Jax and Simon Dimmer.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, James W MacCubbin, a grandson, Justin E Koch, and six sisters and seven brothers.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026 from 3-7 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at 10 a.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements are by R.
