William J. Farnham

William J. Farnham

William “Bill” James Farnham (82), affectionately known as “Grumpy Grandpa,” was a man who perfectly balanced seriousness with humor and showed his love in steady, unmistakable ways. He passed away on Feb. 16, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

William enjoyed the simple things that brought people together–fishing, going to auctions, and family parties. Whether he was casting a line, bidding on a good find, or sitting among family with his familiar expressions and quiet commentary, those moments were where his personality truly shined. His humor often came when you least expected it, and those who knew him best understood that beneath the gruff exterior was a deeply loving man.

Family meant everything to William. He was proud of his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and brother, wearing the title of “Grumpy Grandpa” with a mix of toughness, wit, and unwavering love. His presence was strong, his loyalty unmatched, and his influence will live on through the generations of family he helped shape.

William was employed for 28 years at the NYSDOT as a crane operator.

He is survived by his sons, James (Autumn), Theodore (Mary) Farnham; his daughter, Kathy (Todd) Brisky all from Bemus Point, NY, his beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Alexandra Sinatra, Micheal Peterson, Jordan (Kayla), Andrew (Dr. Makenzie), Riley Farnham, Justin, Nicholas, Adam Brisky; and his great-grandchildren, Aaidyn Rounds, Miller Farnham, and Charlie Farnham. He is also survived by his brothers, Tim (Laura), Kenny, Paul (Bev), and John Farnham; his sisters, Judy Palmer, Mary (Al) Smith, and Patty (Ron) Wetzel; and many other family members and friends.

William was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Arlene; his son, Ricky; his parents, William and Geraldine Farnham; his brother, Syd; and his sister Lynda.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Maple Springs Fire Department from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 14th.

In lieu of flowers, donations in William’s name may be made to the Bemus Point Fire Department at P.O. Box 306 or the Maple Springs Fire Department at P.O. Box 100, at the Bemus Point Post Office.
