David E. Kaus

David E. Kaus, 82, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday morning, March 24, 2026, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born May 9, 1943 in Dunkirk, NY, he was the son of the late Frank E. and Geneieve Kalata Kaus.

He was a graduate of the former Cardinal Mindszenty High School, where he played high school football, graduating in 1961. Dave also played football for the Fredonia Orioles semi-professional football team upon graduating from high school, while also playing City League basketball for the City of Dunkirk, where he was once named MVP.

Dave was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1967-1971, had been stationed in Vietnam, and obtained the rank of Sergeant.

At one time, Dave worked for Eastman Kodak as a troubleshooter, repairing copy machines throughout the Western New York area, and taught electronics at a local trade school. Later, he was self-employed, working as a finished carpenter.

He attended the Great Valley Baptist Church.

Surviving are: a sister, Cynthia Perez, LA; three brothers, Robert F. (Patricia) Kaus, Fredonia, NY; Terry (Karen) Kaus of KY, and Daniel Kaus of Florida; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Natasha Kovalchuk, Lockport, NY, Deanna and Pavel Tereschevich, Amherst, NY, Nick and Tanya Litostansky, Lancaster, NY.

He was predeceased by a brother, Gary Kaus.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, NY on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 11 am-12 pm, at which time funeral services will be held with Pastor Matt Herdzik of the Great Valley Baptist Church officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY.
