Dr. William (Bill) Dale Muller, Emeritus Professor of Political Science at SUNY, Fredonia, died on March 15, 2026, in Westerville, Ohio. The son of John Casper Muller and Dorothea Negley Mitchell, he was born in Pittsburgh, PA on Oct. 11, 1938.
Bill received his BA in Government and History from Ohio University in 1960, his MA in Political Science from the University of Illinois in 1961, and his PhD in Political Science in 1966 from the University of Florida. In 1967 he joined the Political Science Department at SUNY Fredonia, serving in various roles until his retirement in 2005. He published The Kept Men? The First Century of Trade Union Representation in the House of Commons in 1977, and multiple editions of the International Register of Research on British Politics.
In November 1976, Bill married Barbara Ann Morris of Fredonia, NY. It was a marriage made in heaven. Their first daughter, Bonnie Jean, was born in 1978, followed by Elizabeth Ann in 1980. Bill and Barbara retired to Fletcher, NC in 2005. In retirement, he was active at Calvary Episcopal Church and researched family genealogy. In October 2016 they moved to Columbus, Ohio to be closer to family.
He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Elizabeth (Muller) Sumney and Katherine (Muller) Sholes, and older brother, Chief Warrant Officer Joseph B. Muller. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Morris) Muller; daughters, Bonnie (Muller) Swoger and Elizabeth (Muller) Busta; and granddaughters, Katherine Swoger, Emma Swoger, Samantha Busta, Olivia Busta, and Hannah Busta.
A memorial service will be held in Westerville, OH, at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 1:30 pm. He will be cremated and buried in the Garden of Memories at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC at a future date.
