Thelma A. Snow
Thelma A. Baxter Greene Snow, 87, of Westfield, New York, passed away peacefully on April
17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at UPMC Hamot Hospital.
Born on March 4, 1939, in Ripley, NY, to the late Ethel (Brown Baxter Rex Jones) & Carl Baxter.
Thelma lived a vibrant life centered on faith, family, and the simple joy of connection. After a career at SUNY Fredonia, she retired to Ohio to enjoy life with her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Snow.
Thelma truly never met a stranger. Her home was a sanctuary of hospitality where a hot cup of coffee was ready the moment a guest arrived — though you had to keep a close eye on your cup, as she’d likely have it washed and put away the moment you set it down. Known for her “spunky” spirit, she was often the ringleader of mischief with her sisters and a favorite among children, whom she frequently joined in play. An accomplished seamstress and crafter, she once sewed her own wedding dress for a wagon train ceremony and loved teaching others to crochet.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Snow; her son, Leon Greene; and bonus sons, Butch and David Snow. She was also preceded in death by her bonus grandsons, Tony and Chad, and her great-great-granddaughter, Scarlett.
Her legacy lives on through her children, Diana (Eric) Ferry and Donald Greene (Ethel Stanton); and her bonus daughter, Charlene Greene. She is also survived by her bonus children: Bobby (Ellen) Snow, Ronald (Barbie) Snow, Barb (Robert) Beatman, George (Kathy) Snow, and Helen (Joel) Bearce.
Thelma was the proud matriarch of a sprawling family, including nine biological grandchildren: Cherie, Jennifer, Coren, Colleen, Michelle, Donald II, Leanna, Samantha, and Dylan; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her bonus grandchildren: Ronald Jr., Jerred, Chucky, Pauline, Mathew, Michael, Tommy, Bobby Jr., Becky, Charlie, Josh, and Sean; along with 38 bonus great-grandchildren, and two bonus great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her siblings: Charles “Toby” (Roxanne) Baxter, Irene Baxter, Jerry (Doris) Rex Sr, Victor (Rose) Rex Sr, and Gloria Lanphere, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in Westfield, NY. A potluck dinner will follow at the church. Guests are welcome to bring a dish to share; drinks and dessert will be provided.
She will be laid to rest at Quincy Cemetery, Ripley NY at a later date.
