Curtis Mark Raymond “Curt”, 86, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach, FL, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tupper Lake, NY on February 24, 1940, the son of the late Mark and Kathryn (Trainor) Raymond. Curt was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School, Ithaca College, and the University of Buffalo. He played football, basketball, track and baseball in high school and baseball, soccer and track at Ithaca College. He began his 37 year teaching career in 1962 at Silver Creek and Forestville Central Schools, teaching Physical Education and Driver’s Education, while coaching multiple sports. He served as head baseball coach at both schools, as well as defensive football coach and JV and varsity basketball coach at Silver Creek. He later spent 10 years as JV and assistant varsity basketball coach at SUNY Fredonia. He is a member of the Tupper Lake High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Black Knight Hall of Fame. Curt served as Section VI Baseball Chairman, on the Section VI Basketball Committee, and as president of both the Chautauqua County Baseball and Basketball Associations. He also served on the Village of Silver Creek Planning Commission, the Chautauqua County Youth Board and was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek, Holy Cross RC Church, Vero Beach and Tri-County Country Club, Forestville. In retirement, he worked at Dodgertown and local golf courses in Vero Beach. He also served as president of The Crossing HOA and on the board of Victoria Island. Curt enjoyed golfing, working in the yard, and traveling, but especially cherished time with his family, friends, and teams. He loved being a coach- to his players, his children and grandchildren, and anyone who sought his guidance. Curt’s legacy lives on in the many people he helped shape throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Michlena (Panzica) Raymond; his daughter Renee (Luke) Brogger; his son Ross (Marilu) Raymond; sisters, Gail Rose and Jane Cole, sisters-in-law Mary Raymond, Norahlene (John) Noel, and Vivian Pierce. He is also survived by granddaughters; Heidi (Delmar) Wright, Whitney (Jayson) Curry, Mallory (Anthony) Cramer, Leah (Dan) Lubben, Grace, Emilia and Ella Raymond, great grandsons; Luke, Rome & Mack Cramer, Oliver, Dietrich and Charles Curry; and Teddy Lubben. Curt is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother John Raymond and brothers-in-law the Hon. Edward Rose and Don Cole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11 o’clock from Faith Community Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Avenue, Silver Creek. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Silver Creek Central School, designated for the Curt Raymond Athletic Scholarship, PO Box 270, Silver Creek, NY 14136.
