Douglas S. Tingue
Douglas Stephen Tingue of Gowanda, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 19, 2026, at the age of 85. The gracious, helpful staff at Gowanda Nursing and Rehabilitation confirmed Douglas had passed away in his sleep, with no pain or struggle. He was born on August 6 1940, to Stanley Tingue and Edres Zaggle in Gowanda.
After graduating from Gowanda High School, Douglas pursued a career in civil work, as a police officer for Village of Gowanda, safety officer for West Seneca Development Center, ambulance driver for Gowanda and the surrounding region, and a bus driver for Seneca Nation and Gowanda School District. Douglas also married Marjorie Rieckhof (now passed) in June 1960, and together they shared 60 years. Douglas enjoyed sharing old-tale stories of his younger days helping his community, taking road trips with the family, sitting on his porch to gaze at the town, and watching his favorite TV show, Gunsmoke.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Tingue, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Rieckhof. He was predeceased by his sister, Delores Mentley.
Friends may call at Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 105 East Main Street Gowanda, NY on Friday May 22, 2026 from 3-5pm.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 5pm from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Collins Center Cemetery.
