Inez Ruth Edler

1935-2026

Inez Ruth Edler

Inez Ruth Edler, 91, of Irving, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at her home following a brief

illness. She was born in the Town of Hanover on February 22, 1935, the daughter of the late William “Cap” and Anna (Clarke) Hilliker.

Inez was a graduate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1953. For over 70 years Inez worked side by side with her husband and son on the family farm, earning the name “Universal”, because no matter what needed to be done she could do it.

She was a member of the Versailles Community Church and the Versailles Ladies’ Auxiliary, where she found joy in both her church & community family. Inez took great pride in her beautiful gardens and houseplant collection.

She loved to frequent antique stores & yard sales, searching for treasures as she reminisced over

previously used items that are now relics. Her delicious pies were the mainstay of many local events.

She leaves behind many special friends that shared her love of letter writing, dinner table chats, card games, community concert sessions and weekly luncheons.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (William) Fedor of Highland, MI, her son, John (Susan) Edler of Irving and her older brother, Robert Hilliker of Irving. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Christy (Patrick) Martin, John M. (Adreauna) Edler, Andrew (Anisha Kalidindi) Fedor, Catherine Fedor & Gillian Fedor and four great grandchildren; Abigail & Evelyn Martin and Ryleigh & John A. Edler, who were the lights of her life.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, John Lincoln Edler whom she married on August 22, 1953 in the Forestville United Methodist Church and who died on November 17, 2019.

A Memorial Luncheon will be held on Saturday, August 29th at 11 AM at the Gowanda VFW Auxiliary Post 5007, 20 Sandhill Road, Gowanda, NY.

The family invites all who knew and loved Inez to join them in honoring her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Inez’s memory to Sadie’s Safe Harbor Canine Rescue, PO Box 451, Buffalo, NY 14223. Inez’s rescued canine companions “Braxton” & “Puppy Dog” brought her great comfort and joy after the passing of her husband.
